Mirpur City:

Mirpur is the most important and developed city of Mirpur district administered by Pakistan. New Mirpur city is located on the bank of Mangla Lake however old Mirpur is mostly under the water of Mangla Lake. city is situated at 459 meters above sea-level It is linked to main G.T Road at Dina.

The old Mirpur was relocated at 1960 when Mangla dame was approved to be built. That was the time when Mirpur city people were offered to go and work in England. Many of the Mirpur citizen went to work in England and settled there. Today Mirpur is calls mini England because most of it’s community is settled in UK. You can even see many of the British products in Mirpur. Mirpur is named on the name of Miran Shah Ghazi founder of Old Mirpur city. Locals say that Mirpur was found by Miran Shah Ghazi and Sultan Fateh Khan at 1642 A.D or 1052 A.H. Their Shrine are at old Mirpur till now. Most of the time the old city remains under the water but from February to May the water level decreases at Mangla Lake and old city belongings like streets, city gate, grave yard, shrine, mandars and old wells become visible. you can visit old city belongings at those months at bike or on foot. Urs Mubarak are being held every year on Shrine of Miran Shah Ghazi in those months of the year. Many of the citizens visit their relative graves to pray for their loved ones many visit shrine and many visits for tourism to visit the Holy shrine of Syed Abdul Kareem, Holy Shrine of Miran Shah Ghazi, Sikh Gurdwara and Mangla Mandar. Mirpur was ruled by many different rulers with different culture like Hindu Maharajas, Rajpoot, Sardars, Muslim Rulers, Mughal Ruler and British Rulers. The remains of old Mirpur depict a silhouette of pre-partition city when many faiths co-existed side by side. However after division of the State of Jammu Kashmir, the non-Muslim community consisting of Hindus, Buddhists and Sikhs fled to Jammu. Today Mirpur is called most planned and developed city of Azad Kashmir. Big Villas, Beautiful hotels, Shopping Malls, Stadium and other urban facilities are constructed at Mirpur City.
